We are a civic society founded in 1972 in order to protect the character of the city and surrounding districts. Since then the society has kept a watching brief on developments, acted as a pressure group, and organise regular meetings on items of topical interest.

We are registered as a charity (number 268055) set up for the public benefit in order to stimulate and foster greater public awareness and knowledge of those factors influencing the general environment of the Chichester area. Our aims are to secure a general improvement in the social and cultural life of the community, to preserve protect and improve features of historic or public interest and the environment, and to promote high standards of planning and architecture in the Chichester district. The Society is registered with the Civic Trust.
Our current membership exceeds 800. If you would like to become a member of the society then click on the 'Join ChiSoc' button alongside, for more details.
We hold an Annual General Meeting and at least one other meeting each year. Our guest speaker at last year's AGM was Dr Ian Friel of the Chichester District Museum

We become involved in discussions of major commercial developments at an early stage, as well as commenting on current issues.
We are also part of the council-sponsored working parties, for instance on the Walls group.
We publish a quarterly newsletter which has discussions of topical items as well as articles of general interest. Click here for the latest newsletter.
